Baron de Ley

Baron de Ley

Baron de Ley Finca Monasterio

Description

Made using grape varieties grown in our estate surrounding the 16th Century Benedictine Monastery, which vineyard was planted in 1985. Aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels and then for a further 6 months in 10,000-litre French-oak foudres. The size of the foudres reduces the wine’s contact with the wood, allowing for longer aging, reducing the tannins and toasty oak aromas. This mixed aging process results in rounded tannins, greater complexity and flawless fruit flavors.

An uplifting aroma, dominated by blackberry compote, licorice and balsamic oak with spices and milky and roasted hints. Complex, intense and structured, yet fresh right across the palate.

Food Pairing

:

An iconic wine linked to our heritage, it is a versatile companion to beef steaks, stews and game, a nod to the hunting background of the Sanz-Pastor family, the estate’s last residents prior to Barón de Ley’s foundation.

Baron de Ley Rioja Gran Reserva

Description

Lovely ruby-red with a medium depth of color and slight brick-red hues, the textbook definition of Rioja Gran Reservas. Great aromatic intensity on the nose, less fruit-driven, but generous aromatics of lavender, ginger, and saffron. A round and balanced palate, displaying silky tannins while still remaining fresh and lively. The aftertaste is long and lingering, it offers hints of toasted wood and dried fruits.

Food Pairing

:

This wine is enjoyed alongside a classic from Rioja cuisine, chuletillas al sarmiento- milk-fed lamb chops, which we grill over dried vine shoots to provide a unique and healthy smoke taste. We also call this our “fireplace wine”, it can be slowly enjoyed on its own, with a cheese platter or Iberian hams.

Baron de Ley Rioja Reserva

Description

Clean and bright with a medium robe and a ruby red color. On the nose, it is complex with aromas of red fruits, sweet spices with a balsamic background. After a powerful attack the sensation of soft, supple volume gradually extends across the palate for a creamy finish. The aftertaste reminds you of the red berry fruit mingled with hints of wild herbs.

Food Pairing

:

In Rioja, it is the perfect wine to accompany one of our most notorious dishes, the Riojan potatoes, a pottage of potatoes and chorizo with nuances of bay leaf and chorizo pepper. It also pairs with white meat, mushrooms and vegetable stews.

Baron de Ley Rioja Blanco

Description

Pale yellow with greenish glints. We find an aromatic combination of wild herbs, including dill and coriander. Refreshing citrus flavours and white fruit with hints of flowers. It has a long finish thanks to the perfectly balanced alcohol and acidity, where we also find the creaminess characteristic of the Viura variety.

Food Pairing

:

An ideal accompaniment to fish and seafood, but also salads and pasta dishes, as well as any meals with some heat, such as, Mexican, Indian or Thai cuisines.
